COTTAGE GARDEN
Newlyn, Penzance
Nestled in the countryside above Newlyn, this cottage garden is filled with traditional, time-tested deciduous and evergreen trees and shrubs. The under-planting is equally quintessential, boasting an impressive variety of perennials that provide a spectrum of colour and seasonal interest, extending the flowering season. Late January marks the beginning of this garden's flowering calendar, with spring bulbs such as narcissus and crocus. The show ramps up all through the spring and summer, then finally subsides well into late November with flowering specimens from all over the world.
The garden is sunken down on two sides by high retaining walls, beyond which, lies the ancient farmland landscape of West Penwith. An ever-evolving project, the space is going through various stages of improvement, from plant bed creation to new patio seating areas.
